Downtown CORE District Report Richardson is widely recognized for its commitment to excellence, its rich history and its bright future, all of which make it a smart choice for residents and businesses. In 2009, our City Council adopted a new Comprehensive Plan, which identified the Main Street area as one of the six “Enhancement/Redevelopment” zones to address the challenges many first-tier suburbs were facing due to aging development and infrastructure. Today, this area is known as The CORE District and includes the Downtown, Heights, Interurban, Lockwood, and Chinatown areas. The CORE is undergoing major changes with projects ranging from a new public safety campus and public art projects, roadway and pedestrian improvements along Main Street and Greenville Avenue and creative adaptive reuse projects in Lockwood. As growth and transformation occurs, this area continues to serve as the eclectic heart of town, with independently owned and operated businesses and services. For more information, click here.
