State Farm Insurance to add 1,000 employees to Richardson hub

When Tyler Durand moved from Bakersfield, California to North Texas in August to work in the new 2 million-square-foot regional hub for State Farm Insurance, he wasn't sure what to expect.  But in that short time, he's seen the campus evolve, seen the fourth tower begin to take shape, and watch the Aloft Hotel at Cityline get out of the ground.

"This is way more expansive than my smaller office in California and it feels like we are in corporate America and I'm part of a big business," the 26-year-old claims specialist told the Dallas Business Journal on Wednesday. "In our smaller offices, you were attached to the State Farm family, but you didn't really see it all. It wasn't as real to you."

Durand, who has been with Illinois-based State Farm for the past three-and-a-half years, said he had no problem relocating from California to Richardson, in part, because of the auto company's relocation package. He's also been pursuing additional insurance educational certifications, which are paid for by State Farm.

So far, about 4,700 State Farm employees like Durand have set up office within the Richardson hub, which includes a number of break rooms, meeting spaces and areas for employees to get outside of the cubicle. This year, State Farm Insurance expects 2,500 employees to relocate into the company's Richardson hub from other offices in North Texas, primarily coming from an operations center at Preston and Frankford roads.

State Farm also intends to hire 1,000 employees this year, with a starting pay of $15.50 per hour. The company plans to hold a job fair Thursday at Hyatt Regency North Dallas.
