Lockwood Neighborhood in The CORE District Attracts Two New Dining/Entertainment Options

April 3, 2025

Oak Highlands Brewery and Las Lomas Mexican Cuisine to be added to Richardson's eclectic restaurant and entertainment scene.

Richardson's trendy Lockwood Neighborhood will soon be home to two new venues, Oak Highlands Brewery and Las Lomas Mexican Cuisine, adding yet more options to The CORE District's culinary diversity. Both venues will be in properties managed by Durkin Properties, a significant investor in The CORE District.

“The addition of these two new businesses brings an exciting energy to the Lockwood Neighborhood in The CORE District,” said Richardson City Manager Don Magner. “These eclectic spots will add to the ambiance that makes this area so special, with creative menus, cozy atmospheres full of personality, and a strong connection to the local community. Our goal is to support this area as a walkable place where people want to gather, explore, and return again and again.”

The Lockwood Neighborhood is the newest addition to The CORE District in Richardson and has undergone significant revitalization, transforming a once overlooked retail center into a vibrant social hotspot. Today, Lockwood is known for its trendy atmosphere, offering a variety of dining options, coffee shops, modern co-working spaces, and Richardson's first and only distillery.

"As The CORE District’s reputation for unique dining and entertainment experiences grows, interest increases as businesses seek dynamic, authentic environments for their locations,” said Manasseh Durkin, president of Durkin Properties. "This is particularly true of local small business operators who benefit from the regional draw of this area and its mix of restaurants and retailers."

Oak Highlands Brewery

Oak Highlands Brewery is relocating its taproom and production facility to 500 Lockwood Drive in Richardson. The new location will allow the brewery to broaden its fun event options, which its loyal patrons have enjoyed while increasing their focus on their taproom and event space.

Oak Highlands Brewery plans to open its Lockwood location in late spring, but it will announce a specific date as its rebranding and facility upgrades progress.

Las Lomas Mexican Cuisine

Las Lomas Mexican Cuisine will open at 520 Lockwood, offering authentic Mexican food and live entertainment. This new family-owned concept will combine the vibrant flavors of Mexico with the festive energy of mariachi and regional music, attracting food lovers and entertainment seekers.

Las Lomas plans to host themed cultural events such as Dia de los Muertos and Mexican Independence Day. Their cuisine will feature signature tacos, regional specialties, delicious desserts, handcrafted cocktails and drinks. The restaurant will also offer catering and delivery services.

Notable establishments in the Lockwood Neighborhood of The CORE District include:

  • Communion Coffee Cafe: Located at 514 Lockwood Dr, this laid-back, airy-industrial spot offers coffee, breakfast, lunch, and serves as a co-working space.
  • Dream Cafe: Situated at 520 Lockwood Dr, Dream Cafe is a warm, longtime eatery offering American comfort staples in casual surroundings.
  • Lockwood Distillery: Found at 506 Lockwood Dr, this distillery and casual restaurant serves lunch, dinner, and brunch with a Southern comfort-food spin.

Lockwood's transformation and ongoing development have solidified its role as a key component of Richardson's eclectic CORE District, offering residents and visitors a unique blend of culture, cuisine, and community.
