International Economic Development Trip

December 21, 2014
Mike Skelton conducted an economic development trip to the United Kingdom (England) from Oct. 6 to Oct. 18, 2014.  A local economic development consultant arranged meetings with ten UK firms that are planning on expansion of their business to the U.S. market within the next 12-24 months.

TECHUK While in London, Mike was invited to speak to about 15 members of TECHUK, the largest technology association in the UK, regarding business opportunities in the Texas and greater Dallas area for technology firms.

IP EXPO
At the beginning of the trip, Mike attended the IP EXPO conference and met with over 20 firms exhibiting at the conference to discuss their possible plans for expansion of their business into the U.S. market to develop future leads for attracting them to Richardson/Telecom Corridor.

UKSPA
Mike also attended the annual meeting of the UK Science Park Association and was invited to sit at the head table of the President at the event dinner.  Richardson/Telecom Corridor joined the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) in 2013 and several of the UKSPA members are also member of the IASP.  Several acquaintances were made with possible science park partners for the Telecom Corridor to jointly promote our local technology companies for possible expansion or trade relations with partnering park firms.

US Embassy London / SelectUSA Officials
A visit was also made to the US Embassy in London to meet with officials of the SelectUSA program sponsored by the US Department of Commerce.  This program resides in major US embassies around the world promoting the US as a location for foreign companies seeking foreign direct investment into the US market.
