Hill & Wilkinson is planning to move its corporate headquarters from Plano to Richardson, where the general contractor has inked a 27,000-square-foot lease.
Within the last two months, the firm has picked up contracts for several major projects — including work on billionaire Mark Cuban’s planned Wonderview development in southern Dallas.
More than 100 Hill & Wilkinson employees will move into the 190 Tech Park building at 2703 Telecom Pkwy. in mid-August, said Greg Wilkinson, co-chairman of the board. Another 150 employees work in the field on construction sites.
The company’s new office, near the intersection of the President George Bush Turnpike and Renner and Shiloh roads, is slightly larger than its headquarters on Klein Road in Plano.
“We like the (new) location,” Wilkinson said. “It’s convenient for our employees, it provides better access to our clients throughout the region and it’s convenient for our subcontractors to come see us.”
The lease fills the remaining space in the 122,000-square-foot office building, which is owned by an affiliate of Salt Lake City-based Cottonwood Partners. Barry Nelson of Interra Development Group LLC represented the general contractor in the deal.
H&W is finishing out the interior to achieve gold-level U.S. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, Wilkinson said.
Formal economic incentives were not part of attracting the general contractor to Richardson, but the city did waive $2,000 to $3,000 in building permit fees, said Richardson Mayor Gary Slagel. He called Hill & Wilkinson “one of the most innovative and accomplished organizations in the U.S. construction industry.”
Hill & Wilkinson will break ground next month on the $4 million first phase of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s Wonderview project, a 176-acre mixed-used development in east Oak Cliff, said Jeff Sanders, H&W senior vice president.
The initial phase includes four soccer fields, four basketball courts, stands, lighting and rest rooms. Future phases will include retail and offices, a continuing-care retirement community and Mavericks facilities.
The firm is also in pre-construction for future phases of Cuban’s project, although it has not yet officially been named contractor on those phases and a timeline has not been established.
Other North Texas work in H&W’s construction pipeline include projects for the University of Texas at Dallas, Burleson Honda and the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Dallas, Sanders said.
“Most of these are repeat customers,” he said. “It’s continuing work for clients we’ve had for years.”
