Developer KDC and Holder Construction have broken ground on State Farm Insurance’s new data center project in Richardson.

The high-tech development is underway at the southeast corner of Plano Road and Lookout Drive. It’s just south of State Farm’s new office campus at Plano Road and Bush Turnpike.

The 129,180-square-foot data center will take up about 15 acres on the corner. The 1-story building was designed by Corgan Architects of Dallas.

The City of Richardson has been identifying the State Farm development, “Project Black Flag.” The datacenter will have parking for more than 130 workers, according to plans filed with the city.

KDC is also developing State Farm’s new 1.5 million square-foot office campus in the CityLine complex on Bush Turnpike. The first of four State Farm buildings in the project is almost ready to open.

KDC has begun construction on the fourth State Farm office tower at the southeast corner of Plano Road and the turnpike.
