45 Employers at Richardson’s Third Annual Job Fair
Richardson Chamber wins Texas Workforce Excellence Award for its Job Fair program
The Richardson Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas and Richland College held its annual job fair in June 2011 with 45 employers ready to hire workers in a variety of industries.
Topping the list of Richardson employers with jobs to fill were: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Lennox International, Yahoo!, DFW Technology, Holiday Inn Richardson, UT Dallas, Keller Center at DeVry University, Southwest Dispatch Center, Richardson Police Dept., United Healthcare, Nationwide Insurance, Imagine Xhibits, PuroClean Property Rescue and GlowNetworks.
Other participants that were there included state organizations like the Texas Dept. of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard; several job organizations including Career DFW, Delta Dallas, and Volt Workforce Solutions; and retailers such as Raising Cane’s, Taco Bueno, QuikTrip, Family Video, Corner Bakery, Wells Fargo Bank, and BB&T Bank.
The job fair saw over 650 job seekers attend and afforded them the opportunity to meet many company representatives and present their resumes in person.
Richland College once again provided a popular service: a free resume critique during the job fair. Staff from Richland's CareerCenter reviewed resumes, recommended improvements, made changes, and printed new resumes on site.
The Richardson office of Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas, part of the Texas Workforce Commission, provided 12 staff to assist job seekers with registration and consultation on the many free services and training at the Workforce office at 1222 E. Arapaho Rd. in Richardson. Director Jill Werner said, “This is one of the best organized job fairs around and we are pleased to partner with the Richardson Chamber and Richland College for the 3rd consecutive year in helping produce such a successful event.”
Workforce Solutions estimates that at least 10% of the job seekers will find jobs via this type of outreach. Using that percentage and having attracted more than 3,000 job seekers in the past 3 years, it is estimated that the Richardson Job Fair will have resulted in the hiring more than 300 people!
In April of 2011, the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) named the Richardson Chamber the winner of TEDC’s annual Workforce Excellence Award (for cities with 40,000 to 100,000 pop.) for the Chamber’s Job Fair program. Sue Walker, VP of Economic Development accepted the award on behalf of the Richardson Chamber at the TEDC spring conference in Sugar Land, Texas.
